Which just underlines that our kingdom is not of this world, and further proves that seeking the wisdom of men to solve problems of the spirit are not the solution.
Yes, it was a Catch 22. I'd be willing to go that far. But honestly I do not think God will grant us that out, simply because, that being the case, they should have sought His wisdom from the start.
Even so, even if God spots them 'one free' in 2000 due to the Clinton years, by 2004 the bad fruit was already rotting on the tree. The Road Map came out in 2003. That should have been enough to give pause. Never mind the mounting scandals already in the press.
But they let themselves be led astray by a few wedge social issues that were, at best, symptoms of spiritual sickness, which could not be solved by merely passing laws, even if Bush WAS serious about that.
That and the all powerful word of deceived preachers, who basically saw a shot at political relevancy and free money. Let's not kid ourselves.
They embraced not only a works-based agenda, but sought the cover of flesh rather than the Holy Spirit. So even if Bush's running mate was Satan himself, it would not have made it okay. They were already looking in the wrong direction anyway.

They love their lives here. America is a terrific place when you have money. All kinds of shiny things to buy and enjoy. All it costs is your soul.
That is why prosperity preachers do so well here, exchanging the purity of Christ for the false idol of mammon. And of course it seems to work. The devil is delighted to bless people with wealth when he knows in the end he wins. If they use scripture to make it okay, all the better.
If you can afford it, America is heaven on earth. That is why the most prosperous believers seem to be the most compromised.
We've gotten far too comfortable here, and the result is a concerted effort to take America out of the picture prophetically. If we can 'prove' it's not there, then we do not have to face the reality of losing it all. Like you said, idols of our own hands.
The devil's greatest mistake was not giving me a stake in the game. I never had lots of money, so I never got to truly enjoy, or be a part of, the grand party. God used that to His advantage. He will restore the years the locusts have eaten, and it'll be far better than what America offers, it will never fade or rust, and it will be free. Why would I want to hang out here and be slave the rest of my life with little to show?
So I'm all ready for it. Whatever God does not replace, I didn't need. It balances out.

If the lost and apostate christian's have heardened their hearts it will be like Noah and his convincing the lost in his day.
And we know how successful he was.
The antiChrist will have power to kill many of us. Revelation 6:9-11
Daniel also speaks to this reality that the shepherds have not perpared their flocks for.
As in Jeremiah's day when God judged Israel He will not hear the cry of many who waited too long to seek Him.
The parable of the 10 virgins (Matthew 25) tells us much of what will befall this generation.

I believe we should be asking each other if we are willing to count the cost and lay down our lives as martyrs for Jesus when they come for us.
UNPREPARED CHURCH ,LAODECIAN CHURCH,ASLEEP CHURCH,PROSPEROUS NAKED CHURCH.
That is the end task we most likely will face ,and this is where the great falling away will come which Jesus told us about beforehand.
