The italics for the word "permanent" do not, in this case, mean that the word is not there in the original text, but are intended to emphasize that the God of Israel instructed that this festival, like His covenant with the people of Israel, be perpetual. Unfortunately, Christianity lost sight of this in its infancy and — more unfortunate still — the Christians of today, for the most part, legalistically cling to the traditions of the Church Fathers, setting aside the commands of God in the process.
