I don't think this is a diversion but more stupidity at work,something we are not in short supply of since we kicked God out and opened the floodgates to the heathen and their demons.
All this specific information leaks out for one purpose.
If I were the Iranian military leader I would not wait for an openly planned attack by the US ,every aspect of it  laid out in the media.
I would quietly plan a Pearl Harbor type sneak attack on all US bases and Naval forces in the immediate area and wait for the air traffic from Diego Garcia  and hit them with SAM's long before they got near Iran.

IF IT QUACKS LIKE A DUCK

Daily we read of Muslims killing each other in Pakistan, Iraq Afghanistan and elsewhere.
They can't even live in peace among themselves.
They always blame others for their evil actions.
They blow themselves up in Mosques as fellow Muslims pray and in markets and think nothing of blowing up innocent children.
Tehn you have the brutality against women inherent in this  religion of intolerance and hate.
The truth is out there for all to see.

The US has always heavily berated and intimidated Israel for supposedly killing civilians while it does this daily for years in Afghanistan and Iraq.Take the telephone pole out of your own eye before your rail against the tiny splinter in Israel's eyes.
America's agenda in Afghanistan is ruined because of  this ongoing killing of civilians.
