If you read the BBC story, the text can generally be taken in the physical, or in the spiritual. If meant in the spiritual way of "armour of God" "two edged sword" etcetera, then fine, but I agree that to use physical violence is out of the question.

Another recent movie based on what really happened in Belarus during WWII is Defiance where the Jews fought the Germans and did not go quietly to their deaths.
I do believe as Christians we have the right to defend ourselves but not to make war.
Yes, I saw the Pianist, I have it on DVD, I must watch it again soon. I have not seen Defiance, but intend to.
Even if we have the right to self defence, we would have to be guided by the Holy Spirit, if attacked, as to whether to actually defend ourselves, or to go down preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ and forgiveness.
I do believe that the time is approaching when we may have to make these decisions.
Our God will meet our every need.

The interesting thing about the Pianist Mr. Spielman is he never fought back and he escaped death many times and lived to a ripe old age dying on July 2000.
